Rob Roy Glacier

An alpine walk of considerable beauty is the Rob Roy Glacier Track, in Mt Aspiring National Park, in the South Island of New Zealand.  The track is 10km return, and follows alongside the Rob Roy Stream. It meanders through beech forest, with an understory of ferns and mosses, opening out into a majestic scene of the glacier, with waterfalls lining its cliffs.  The glacier begins high on Rob Roy Peak, at 2,600m, then cascades into the stream below.  Visitors are treated to magnificent views of the glacier and are close enough to hear and see avalanche activity.
